Story Behind the Product

Jamie bought Stanley’s chargeable drill in freshman year at RISD, after finding out that she would be in need of drill many times throughout my career. This drill was her best friend since the beginning of her design journey at RISD and she believe other students have this kind of attachment to their tools as well.

She would embrace the drill in her arms with other tools all hung up in each of her fingers, like rulers, Stanley’s measuring tape, drill bit set, cutter, jeweler’s saw, Japanese saw, while fragilely crossing the road and running to the department buildings. There weren’t any tool bags available that would fit all of these, and if they did, it would make scratch on the fabric, because the tools weren’t sorted in orderly way.

When I looked up Stanley’s tool bags, there were designs that would be perfect for the tools to fit and for us to carry them. One thing I noticed was that all the tools would fit in the front side of our body.

That made me think the drill wouldn’t fit in any of those bags while working on a project, since the weight will pull down and drag our body forward. My idea in this project is to make a bag for drills and other tools that would fit around the whole waist, front and back, to balance the weight.
